Meaghan Green Blog Feature for Glamography Magazine

Glamography Magazine aims to feature everyday women and their stories. Our mission is to give these women the opportunity to break out of their day-to-day, get glammed up a little, and celebrate their true, authentic selves. This is Meaghan's story from the upcoming issue of Glamography:

I was born and raised in Springfield, MO. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with my life after high school, so I joined the Coast Guard shortly after graduation. I served a little over five years and moved up and down the East Coast during my active duty days. I never thought I would ever move back home, but life had other plans and I came back in 2015 with my three kids. I am now married to a firefighter and our family is complete with our fourth child.

Fitness has been a huge part of my life ever since I wanted to join the Coast Guard. Over the course of those years, I continued to learn about the body and different exercises/sports. Once I got out of the Coast Guard, I went to school and earned degrees in both Alternative Health and Exercise Science. I am a certified personal trainer as well as a lead instructor at a boutique cycling studio. While my main gig is in wholesale insurance, I am looking to start personal training again in the near future. Movement is medicine. Movement is essential. And I want to help show others that every fitness journey is different, so never compare yourself to others. Focus on you and what you want and what you need.

When I am not running around, you can find me snuggled up on the couch reading a book and taking naps.

As a woman, it’s weird to talk about feeling powerful at times but there are a couple things that I feel that makes me powerful. First of all, juggling alllll the hats: motherhood... wife... friend... business woman... entrepreneur. It can be overwhelming from time-to-time, but when I sit back and think of all the things I do, I feel badass. On top of those commitments in my life, I still make time to go lift weights. Pushing my body to get stronger makes me feel powerful as well.

Society has pushed the agenda for women to be small and meek. Well, I am here to help show women and young girls that lifting weights can enhance the quality of life and help maintain independence as we age. In addition, just the act of moving heavy dumbbells or plates around can make you feel pretty powerful.

It might sound cliche, but to me, beauty comes from within. It is loving yourself at every stage of your life, especially every decade. A woman's body goes through so much change that we have to remind ourselves that we are not going to look like we were at twenty compared to mid-thirties, forties, fifties, etc. Beauty is accepting changes, but still continuing to take care of yourself (mind and body).

As for me, I am a work in progress! With four kids, a firefighter husband, full time job, and a lead instructor at a boutique cycling studio, I definitely try to find the time to get to the gym and have time for myself. When I get those endorphins flowing, I feel good. When I feel good, I am less harsh on myself because I know I have put in the hard work and I feel good in my skin.
